Ardmore has, since its establishment in 1958,
been host to many high profile international productions
with stars ranging from Jimmy Cagney, Richard
Burton and Peter O'Toole in the early years, to
Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson and Dennis Hopper in more
recent times. In between there have been visits
from Sean Connery, Julia Roberts and Pierce Brosnan
to name but a few.
Films produced in Ardmore Studios include the
award winning My Left Foot, Roddy Doyle's hilarious
film, The Snapper, and the world famous BBC series
Ballykissangel.
Ardmore Studios is Ireland's only four-wall studio
facility. Its five sound stages have seen extensive
activity over its 43-year existence to the extent
that its name is now synonymous with Irish film
making. Ardmore Studios has built up an impressive
track record and is equal to Ealing and Pinewood
Studios in the UK. Over the years Ardmore Studios
went through some hard times and was nearly closed
on a number of occasions. Fortunately for the
Irish film industry, Ardmore has continued to
expand on its services and has attracted some
major productions such as the remake of the Count
of Monte Cristo and Reign of Fire starring Matthew
McConnaughy and Christian Bale.
